Something Very Meaningful
Today I have something I want to show you that I think is very meaningful. All over the world, there are a lot people thinking of ways to help other people. For example, there’s a group of martial arts students who not only practice kung fu to help strengthen their bodies and improve their health, they also have very kind hearts full of enthusiasm. After they found out about the Build a School for a Dollar project, they all contributed some money and sent me the donations along with some pictures that they drew.

Then there’s the lady from Germany who puts €5 Euros (USD$6.7) into a piggy bank every week. Originally, she wanted to send the piggy bank to me for Christmas but as soon as she found out that donations for the Build a School for a Dollar project had decreased, she immediately sent the piggy with the money to me, hoping to add a little contribution for the cause. Apart from donating money to help with constructing new schools, she also wanted to tell other people that this project is still active and remind everyone to continue supporting this very meaningful work.

Actually, there are so many other examples but it’s not possible for me to write them all in here. I am very pleased to know that there are so many enthusiastic and kind hearted people supporting my charity work. I know I can’t ask everyone to help other people by donating everything that you have. I only hope that if each person could donate a small amount, I could then put all the small contributions together and that will add up to a big amount, just like piling up many grains of sand will make a mountain.
My Treasured Items
Today I agreed to do an interview at my own studio and introduce my collection of antique furniture that I’ve accumulated and stored away for many years. All the furniture is made of zǐtán wood (red sandalwood). At present, zǐtán is no longer exported and I guess you could say that it won’t be produced anymore. As a result, my collection of antique furniture has become quite valuable and if someone was willing to pay the price, I would be willing to sell it all.

This zǐtán cabinet is a matching pair and it’s called the “Dragon Phoenix Cabinet.” The net weight of each unit is two tons. I invited a wood carving master to make these cabinets for me and because it was required that only one person worked on the job, I couldn’t ask someone else to help otherwise you’d see a difference in craftsmanship with the wood carving. Consequently, the cabinets took a total of four years to complete. One of my friends saw the matching cabinets and he said he’d be willing to pay HK $10 million to buy the pair. I plan to sell the cabinets at an auction next year with a start off price of $10 million.

These lights are of zǐtán wood and they're called “Heaven and Earth.” They're two of my favorite and most treasured items.

And this saddle - I used it when I filmed Shanghai Noon and The Myth. I plan on bringing out these items and selling them at a charity auction someday. Also, this is a zǐtán staircase; the start off price will be set at HK $10 million as well.
When I was young, I wanted to collect everything and bought whatever I could. But now I’ve changed. I like to give whatever I can and I make sacrifices. As long as someone offers me a good price, I’d be willing to sell everything that I have and then use the money to do charity work.
I also showed the reporter many of the drawings for the Build a School for a Dollar project, each with different currencies in notes or coins stuck on the pictures, all of them sent in by children and adults from all over the world. I’m not going to take the money off from the drawings. Instead, I’m going to take all the pictures and put them inside my museum. Originally, for every dollar donated to this project, I only needed to match it with one dollar but now I have to match it with two dollars because the money on the drawings will be put in my museum so in place of those donations, I’m going to give an extra dollar.
Here is a video I made for you to say thank you and to show you all the amazing drawings!

Actually, I know there are some friends who only send donations and don’t send drawings. I am very grateful to them as well. Tomorrow I’ll be going into China and will participate in a new round of Dragon’s Heart Foundation events. All the money you’ve donated will be used for the people in need. I’d like to take this opportunity and say thank you on behalf of the people who will benefit from your donations!
